The immersive technologies room will provide a variety of equipment and software applications used for augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality experiences. Immersive technologies create or extend reality by immersing the user in a digital environment with applications in different domains. AR is technology that displays computer generated augmentations on top of reality. It helps us to accomplish tasks better and efficiently. Mixed reality is a mix of virtual reality and AR. Blending the real world with VR. Users can interact with virtual objects in mixed reality.
To use the Makerspace equipment, participants must first have either: attended one of our Makerspace Workshops
or completed the series of online XR trainings through Niche Academy.
Niche Academy Trainings
For new makerspace users, select the Niche Academy link above to access our online safety and hardware trainings for the Pecan Makerspace. An account will need to be created in order to track your completion status.
Once you are on the website:
located at the top right corner.You will automatically receive an email with your credentials.
Once you are logged in to Niche Academy, complete trainings under XR Trainings titled:
Completion of these trainings will enable you to reserve the XR Equipment at any of our Makerspace locations.
Reservation for AR/VR Experience
To set up an appointment, select the 'Make Reservation' button to the left.
- Select your desired campus
- Choose an equipment you'd like to use (Ex: Oculus Quest II).
- Select the time best suited for you.
- Log-in with your student credentials and read the "Terms & Conditions".
- Press "Continue" and fill out the questions prompted.
- Click "Submit My Reservation"
