Numbers in parentheses refer to specific pages in the MLA Handbook, 8th ed.
Hanging Indent
Each Works Cited entry should be formatted with a hanging indent (p. 112).
Alphabetical
Arrange Works Cited entries alphabetically by the surname of the first author, or by title if there is no author. When beginning with the title ignore initial articles (e.g. A, An, The) for alphabetization (pp. 112, 115).
Placement of the Works Cited List
The list of Works Cited typically appears at the end of a research paper or presentation (p. 112, 128).
Formatting
The MLA Handbook does not specify any guidelines for how the Works Cited page should be formatted in terms of font size, font type, and spacing. Please check with your instructor for this information.
