2024 Elections: Local - Hidalgo County

Information on federal, state, and local elections.
 

Voter Eligibility

To be eligible to register in Texas, you must:

  • be a U.S. citizen
  • be a resident of the county
  • be 18 years old (you may register at 17 years and 10 months)
  • not a convicted felon (unless a person's sentence is completed, including any probation or parole)
  • not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

You may vote early by mail if you are:

  • 65 years of age or older on Election Day;
  • Disability;
  • Expected absence from the county; you will receive a ballot for the upcoming election only. 
  • Confined in jail; you will receive a ballot for the upcoming election only.

Applications for a ballot by mail must be submitted to the early voting clerk on or after the 60th day before Election Day and before the close of business on the 11th day before Election Day. If the 11th day is a weekend, the last day to submit an application is the preceding Friday.

NOTE: To be eligible to vote in an upcoming election your application must be received or postmarked at least 30 days prior to the posted election date to be entitled to vote in that particular election.
You may request a postage-paid application by filling out this form and no later than the next working day, a voter registration application will be mailed to you. You must mail the voter registration application to:

You may also pick up a voter registration application at many post offices, libraries, Texas Department of Public Safety offices, and Texas Department of Human Services offices throughout the state.

Military/Overseas

You are eligible to vote early with an FPCA if you are qualified to vote in Texas and you are:

  • A member of the U.S. armed forces, their spouse or a dependent
  • A member of the U.S. merchant marines, their spouse or a dependent
  • A U.S. citizen domiciled in Texas but temporarily living outside the territorial limits of the United States.

The Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) is a form provided by federal law to permit members of the U.S. armed forces and merchant marines, their dependents and U.S. citizens abroad to vote early by mail and, if necessary, to temporarily register to vote.
